The Pier X project was initiated in 2016 by the serial entrepreneurs, Morten Wiese, and Carine Zeier and facilitated and funded by Norwegian Property (NPRO) a corporate real estate company listed on Oslo Stock Exchange.
Our vision was to build an ecosystem for scale-up companies in Norway in the historic Machine Hall building at Aker Brygge. We wanted to bring company building experience, serious venture capital and strong corporate advisory together to help build Norway’s next technologies and industries. In just a few months after the opening in September 2017 Pier X was accommodating over 125 dedicated people. Serial entrepreneurs with decades of track-record, VC’s, corporate VC’s, family offices, private investors and some of the very best early-stage corporate advisors in the city.
Morten started his first company MobilPartner back in 1994. It became Norway’s fastest growing privately owned mobile phone retail chain and was acquired by Telenor in 1999. Since then Morten has been CEO, chairman, founder and co-founder of several ground-breaking, fast-growing and successful companies – many of them eventually acquired by major industry-, venture- and private equity players. Today he has over two decades of start-up and scale-up experience from M2M, IoT, Adtech, Edtech, Retail and Mobile Industries.
Morten has worked with companies like ETS/ABAX, the fastest growing telematics company in Europe (acquired by Norvestor PE fund in 2012 and Investcorp in 2017), OneCall (a mobile virtual network operator acquired by Telia Sonera), Think (Norway’s failing attempt to build an electric car), Boost Communications (a pioneering mobile marketing company funded by Investinor and NIK III), mYoutime (e+m-Learning company acquired by Conexus), Mobitel (a mobile content services company acquired by Dangaard Telecom) and One2Touch (an embedded HW & SW company funded by NIK II and Eker Group).
Carine specializes in taking early-stage technology into commercial stages and assisting businesses on their path to becoming digital masters – from strategy to realization. She does whatever she can to help build the Nordic ecosystem for tech companies in the scaling stages. One of her most interesting journeys was definitely Fast Search & Transfer, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2008 for USD 1.2 Billion.
Over the past decade, Carine has worked both operationally and as outside counsel for companies looking at substantial paradigm shifts due to digital developments, such as; Big Data, Contextual Computing, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, e+m-Commerce, Mobility, Martech, Adtech, Customer Engagement Management (CEM), M2M/IoT and bridging physical and digital worlds. In the past couple of years, she has worked with commercializing companies like Boost Communications, One2Touch, Documaster, and Disruptive Technologies.
